Mechanical Design Review Readiness Checklist
A concise gate review for product architecture, detailed design, production readiness, and release evidence.
01 · Requirements
- User, operating states, and success criteria are explicit
- Critical assumptions and unresolved questions are visible
- Interfaces and owners are defined
- Requirements are measurable and traceable
02 · Loads + physics
- Load cases, boundary conditions, and misuse states are documented
- Free-body diagrams close complete load paths
- Strength, stiffness, stability, fatigue, and thermal effects are addressed
- Margins match uncertainty and consequence
03 · Motion + interfaces
- Degrees of freedom and constraint strategy are deliberate
- Fits, clearances, backlash, friction, wear, and hard stops are evaluated
- Moving envelopes and jam states are reviewed
- Service and replacement preserve function
04 · Tolerances
- Datums follow function and assembly
- Critical stacks close mathematically
- Tolerance values match process capability
- Inspection can verify each critical characteristic
05 · Production
- Material and process assumptions match volume
- Assembly order, access, joining, and error proofing are credible
- Supplier feedback is closed by design ownership
- CAD, drawings, specifications, and bill of materials agree
06 · Evidence + release
- Prototype fidelity and limitations are recorded
- Tests map to requirements and pass criteria
- Failures have corrective action and retest evidence
- Residual risks, configuration, and release authority are documented
